What does Pause do, and when should I use it?

The short answer

Pause marks a break. Break time isn’t counted as time on shift, so your $/hr stays true. Use it whenever you stop working, like for a meal.

  1. Tap Pause. The sheet asks Taking a break?
  2. Optionally enter Odometer now. It’s used if you end the shift while still paused.
  3. Tap Confirm Pause. When you set off again, tap Resume shift.

Driving during a break

  • If GPS is recording and picks up driving during the break, Resume shift asks how far you drove. That distance is kept out of your business km.
  • If you end the shift while paused, the End shift sheet asks what you drove (Driven during your break), worked out from Odometer now if you entered it. That is kept out too.
  • If GPS isn’t recording (on Drive, with location off, or when it picked up no movement), resuming can’t tell, so any driving in that break counts as shift km. Driving for yourself? End the shift and start a new one after.
Breaks and work-time limits

New Zealand’s work-time rules require regular breaks. When one is due, Drive says so and its main button becomes Take a 30-min break. Your limit is in Settings → Fatigue Management.
